While I’m working at my freelance position, I get several women & teens asking me for help and advice when it comes to basic makeup. They have been on YouTube and see that you need 20 products to do makeup and are completely lost. Or the parent wants them to dip their toes in the makeup pool and don’t know where to start. So, let me explain it the way I explain to them.
You don’t need 20+ products for a basic, everyday makeup routine. Makeup is such a personal experience that everyone’s daily routine will differ. Yes, I did call it an experience. Why? Well, it’s simple, it is an experience. Think about it for a moment. When you look in the mirror to put your makeup on chances are you are trying to conceal the imperfections. Once you are done your confidence soars and you are ready to take on the world. Am I wrong? Who doesn’t feel like a badass when their lashes are long & curled, or their acne scars are not as visible or even those pesky little bags under your eyes being lessened.
So let’s get back to that daily routine. Find out what works best for you; what are you comfortable with? What is your goal for coverage; full, buildable? Do you prefer just to spot conceal instead of foundation? Lips- stain, lipstick, lipgloss, etc what do you want? Do you see how it’s a personal experience now?
Remember that the next time you want to listen to the beauty gurus on YouTube that tell you their no makeup makeup routine consists of 15 products. Side note, chances are that look is just for the video and their actual no makeup makeup consists of 10 products or less (including tools).
